--the Wiltern Theatre was originally designed as a vaudeville theater & initially opened (in 1931) as the "Warner Brothers Western Theater", the flagship for the theater chain. After closing a year later, the theater reopened in the mid-1930s & was renamed the "Wiltern Theatre" for the major intersection which it faces (Wilshire Boulevard & Western Avenue). Today, the theater is known familiarly as "The Wiltern."
